THE FARMERS' DAUGHTER - fresh produce, grown on-site or locally
The Farmers' Daughter is a North Carolina Farm Fresh Certified Roadside Farm Market in Taylorsville, NC.  Our business is to provide the freshest produce to our customers.  We are unique because if we do not grow something, we buy it locally, within 50-miles of our farm.  We encourage our customers to buy locally grown produce, because it helps our local food economy! It also allows us to educate our customers on: growing seasons, nutritional value, and food quality.  These things all get lost when you shop from a “global” market!  Our vegetables are vine ripened and picked at the peak of perfection!  A grocery store just can't compete with the look, taste, and feel of our vegetables.  Don't be surprised when you come by, if we go out into the garden and actually pick what you need!

We use an Integrated Pest Management (IMP) program to help us build healthier soils. We use both biopesticides & synthetic pesticides.  We observe all Pre-harvest Intervals (PHI) for the pesticide used.

Healthy soils and water management are the basis for delicious vegetables!  We utilize plastic mulch and drip irrigation to suppress weeds, retain soil moisture, cut down on soil erosion, conserve water, and maintain soil temperature.  We are careful of what we use in our gardens and greenhouse, because we have our next generation to worry about.  Lily turned 3 years old in November and Max was 1 in August.  They are right beside us in the garden and into everything!

We have a variety of value-added products that we sell at our stand, like our very own:  homemade pies, preserves, salsa, and pickles.  We don’t like to waste anything!  Even what we consider “scraps/trash” goes to feed the cows.

We grow a large selection of vegetables and several varieties of each vegetable.  This is in order to bring you the most delicious, mouth watering flavors we can grow on a vine or plant.  We do not grow the varieties that you would buy in stores.  They are “made” for shipping.  We select varieties that are best suited for a “fresh market”, although the shelf life is still pretty good!  You have to realize that if you buy your produce from us, you are getting it at least 3-4 days sooner than you would if you bought it in a store!  It is just so much better for you and your family!  The nutritional value in vegetables is much higher when they are picked at the peak of ripeness and that is when you get to take them home from our stand!

Our vegetables and fruit include:  beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, collard greens, greens (mustard, turnip, and kale), leaf & romaine lettuce, radishes, spring onions, sweet peas, turnips, cantaloupes, cucumbers, Crowder peas, eggplant, green beans, October beans, onions, peppers (sweet & hot), potatoes, squash, sweet corn, sweet potatoes, watermelons, winter squash, zucchini, blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries.  Our farm products include:  deer corn, straw, and soybeans. We also sell locally grown:  apples, peaches, blueberries, honey, and molasses.

In May of 2011, we added a Pick-Your-Own (PYO) Strawberry patch!  The patch is now closed for the season and will re-open in May of 2012. Groups are welcome!  Please contact Amy for more information (see information below).
